Resumo

O presente artigo tem como objetivo principal analisar o formato álbum visual, tendo como corpus empírico de observação a obra How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, da banda britânica Florence + The Machine. Partindo-se do pressuposto de que as características estéticas do álbum visual são derivadas do cruzamento entre o álbum fonográfico, o videoclipe e as narrativas cinematográficas, o artigo empreenderá uma análise micro contextual do formato na cultura digital, procurando investigar as estratégias de mercado utilizadas na promoção da obra, bem como a sua dimensão estética e o seu impacto cultural no contemporâneo. A hipótese central deste trabalho é a de que o álbum visual materializa a convergência midiática entre os três produtos supramencionados, instaurando um modelo de fruição estética pautado pela específica linguagem audiovisual do formato.

The main objective of this article is to analyze the visual album format, using the work How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, by the British band Florence + The Machine, as the empirical corpus of observation. Based on the assumption that the aesthetic characteristics of the visual album are derived from the intersection between the phonographic album, the music video and the feature film, the article will undertake a contextual macro analysis of the format in the digital culture, seeking to investigate the strategies used to promote the work, as well as its aesthetic dimension and its cultural impact on the contemporary. The central hypothesis of this work is that the visual album materializes the media convergence between the three products mentioned above, establishing a model of aesthetic enjoyment ruled by the specific audiovisual language of the format.
