Resumo

The impact of a Municipal School of Arts on musical education in Timon (MARANHÃO): a case study at the Beija-Flor School of Arts

Throughout the history of Music Education we can observe that the teaching of music still has difficulties for systematization and presence in Basic Education. In this sense, music education in non-school spaces has grown in a way that complements school education practices (FERREIRA, 2015). Within this perspective, we take as object of research the Municipal School of Arts Beija Flor, located in the city of Timon (MA). The school emerged as a social project in 2001 and was transformed into a municipal school in 2017 with the aim of reducing school dropout and increasing artistic and cultural training in the community. From this reality, the study has the following main question: what is the importance of the presence of the school for the cultural and musical formation of the region? In this sense, we aim, through this research, to investigate the relevance of the institution to the local community, within the musical training of students. The methodology is based on the qualitative approach and as strategy will be used the case study based on interviews with the parents of the students of the music courses. As a result, we can understand the importance of the institution to the community from the perspective of the parents of the students, analyze the modifications in the daily life of these students and finally list actions and measures indicated by the parents, for improvements and institutional modifications in the daily process of teaching.
