Resumo

This is a historical and analytical study of Ragtime for Eleven Instruments by Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971). From a traditional ragtime stylistic approach (SCHAFER; RIEDEL, 1973. BERLIN, 1980), this study aims to search for evidence of popular elements in the compositional material of Ragtime for Eleven Instruments and any influence of ragtime arrangements in Stravinsky's piece. Disregarding historical evidence and statements by the composer himself who claimed to have had contact with instrumental parts of ragtime arrangements brought from America by his friend Ernest Ansermet, this comparative music analysis shows similar musical features between Ragtime for Eleven Instruments and examples from the High-Class Standard Rags collection.

Ragtime for Eleven Instruments, de Stravinsky: considerações históricas e estilísticas

Este artigo é um estudo histórico‐analítico da peça Ragtime for Eleven Instruments, de Igor Stravinsky (1882‐1971). A partir da abordagem estilística do “ragtime tradicional” (SCHAFER; RIEDEL, 1973. BERLIN, 1980), busca investigar indícios em Ragtime for Eleven Instruments da existência do elemento popular em seu material composicional e da possível influência de arranjos de ragtimena peça de Stravinsky. Mesmo desconsiderando as evidências históricas e afirmações de Stravinsky alegando ter tido contato com partes instrumentais de ragtime trazidas dos Estados Unidos por seu amigo Ernest Ansermet, a análise musical comparativa realizada por este trabalho revela características musicais similares entre Ragtime for Eleven Instruments e exemplos da coleção High-Class Standard Rags.
