Resumo

Na busca pela compreensão acerca das implicações entre os contatos – como pontos de inflexão, influências e repercussões étnicas/multiculturais – presentes na Encomendação das Almas num espaço ibero-afro-brasileiro, este trabalho, a partir da análise de transcrições de cantos entoados no ritual extraídos de fontes bibliográficas e oriundos de trabalhos de campo, identifica e analisa elementos que reproduzem misticismos, simbolismos, crenças e valores comuns entre as diferentes matrizes presentes no ritual no âmbito do catolicismo popular. Através dessa abordagem, pretende-se, assim, compreender o contato pluriétnico em torno do rito, como foi capaz de influenciar e modificar as práticas musicais que integram sua realização e identificar os principais aspectos que ilustram o escopo performático como tradição que vem resistindo através do tempo e espaço.

Sung Prayers for the Commendation of Souls: contacts, influences and multicultural elements

This work aims to understand the implications of the contacts - such as turning points, influences and ethnic/multicultural repercussions - presented in the Commendation of Souls (Encomendação das Almas) in an Ibero-Afro-Brazilian space. Based on the analysis of songs’ transcriptions sung in the ritual, taken from bibliographical sources and field recordings, this work identifies and analyses elements that reproduce mysticisms, symbolisms, beliefs and common values to the different matrices present in the ritual, characterizing it in the context of popular Catholicism. We intend to understand the multi-ethnic contacts surrounding the rite, and how it has been able to influence and modify musical practices that integrates its performance. We also identify the main aspects that illustrate this performative scope as a tradition that has resisted through time and space.
