Resumo

Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar três narrativas de viajantes europeus no Brasil Central durante o século XIX nas quais são descritas práticas musicais de função religiosa na Igreja Católica. Busca-se aqui compreender as transformações de tais práticas na primeira metade do século XX. Recorrendo aos referenciais de memória e identidade em Joël Candau e Michael Pollak, bem como aos sistemas sociais em Luhmann, os resultados apontam para tentativas de controle institucional a Romanização e o consequente esquecimento de determinadas práticas.

Musical Practices with Religious Function in Brasil Central before Romanization and Catholic Music Restoration: Narratives, Silences and Power Relations on Three European Travelers’ Roports

The pourpose of this is to analyze three narratives of European travelers in Brasil Central during the nineteenth century in which are described musical practices with religious function in Catholic Church. It aims at understand the transformations of such practices in the first half of the twentieth century. Using the approach of memory and identity by Joël Candau and Michael Pollak, as well as social systems by Luhmann, the results point to attempts to institutional control during Romanization and the consequent oblivion of certain practices.
