The teaching of singing in the 21st century: the construction of vocal sound and singer preparation methods

This work is a cutout of the final CBT that had as its central theme the process of building vocal sound in singing students. The general objective of the research was to investigate vocal preparation in singing students in order to understand the process of building different types of sound. Based on the assumptions of McKinney (1994), concerning the method of identifying the needs of adjustment and treatment of the singing voice and the concepts of Fernandes (2009) and Miller (1986) about the structure of singing, relating vocal techniques and the physiology of the vocal tract, the paper reflects on the exercises used by the authors and vocal trainers interviewed. The research had a qualitative character and the method used was the case study (YIN, 2001), involving four vocal preparers. In the data collection phase, semi-structured interviews were conducted (QUEIROZ, 1988). The research finds that the sound modification process requires a consistent study routine and cannot be standardized, making use of strategies that meet the specifics of each singer. In addition, it requires qualified professional support with teachers who are able to develop the desired sounding, valuing vocal health.
