Resumo

Esta dissertação é um estudo histórico-analítico da peça Ragtime para onze instrumentos, de Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971). Apresenta discussão entre autores a respeito da abordagem histórica do ragtime nos Estados Unidos e seus desdobramentos na Europa: o contato de Stravinsky com o ragtime tradicional; o diálogo entre a música popular americana e a música de concerto européia (BERLIN, 1980, 1994 e 2001; BOMBERG, 2002; COOKE, 1998; MCKINLEY, 1986; SHAW, 1986; TARUSKIN, 1996; WALSH, 2002). A partir da abordagem estilística do ragtime tradicional (SCHAFER e RIEDEL, 1973; BERLIN, 1980), busca investigar indícios em Ragtime para onze instrumentos da existência do elemento popular no material composicional e da possível influência de arranjos de ragtime na peça de Stravinsky. Levanta questões relacionadas à análise estrutural de Ragtime para onze instrumentos, tendo como base a teoria de Allen Forte (1973).

This dissertation is a historical and analytical study of the Ragtime for eleven Instruments, by Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971). It displays discussions among scholars in concern of the historical approach of ragtime music in the United States of America and its spread throughout Europe: Stravinsky's contact with traditional ragtime; the dialogue between American popular music and European classical music (BERLIN, 1980, 1994 e 2001; BOMBERG, 2002; COOKE, 1998; MCKINLEY, 1986; SHAW, 1986; TARUSKIN, 1996; WALSH, 2002). From a stylistic approach of the traditional ragtime genre (SCHAFER e RIEDEL, 1973; BERLIN, 1980), it aims to search for evidences of popular elements in the composition in Ragtime for eleven instruments, and of the possible influence of ragtime arrangements in Stravinsky's piece. It raises the discussion related to the structural analysis of Ragtime for eleven instruments, based on the theory of Allen Forte (1973).
