Resumo

Este estudo tem como tema o papel histórico do Black Mountain College (EUA), instituição de ensino que dá continuidade aos ideais de interação entre as artes, aos conceitos artísticos surgidos na Europa no contexto das vanguardas do início do século XX, e à integração entre criação artística e ensino, características presentes na Escola Bauhaus na Alemanha, da qual parte de seu corpo docente é originário. Apontando semelhanças entre as duas instituições, o estudo observa como as ideias da escola alemã frutificam em solo americano e cooperam para o surgimento de novas formas de manifestação artística, como o Happening e a Arte da Performance.

Black Mountain College: New Concepts of Art and Pedagogy

This study is about the historical role of Black Mountain College (USA), an educational institution that continues the ideals of interweaving the Arts, the artistic concepts that emerged in Europe in the context of the early twentieth century’s avant-gardes, and the integration between Art creation and teaching, characteristics present at the Bauhaus School in Germany, from which part of the faculty originates. Pointing out similarities between the two institutions, the study observes how the ideas of the German school develop in America and cooperate for the emergence of new forms of artistic expression, such as the happening and the Performance Art.
