Resumo

Durante a segunda metade do século XIX, a cidade de Campinas recebe um grande número de imigrantes italianos. No intuito de substituir a mão de obra escrava um projeto oficial de imigração se institui no país. Chegando ao país a comunidade italiana em Campinas organiza bandas de música que terão um papel de destaque em apresentações e na formação de músicos na região. O objetivo do presente trabalho é o de analisar a trajetória destas corporações e seu papel na construção do discurso nacional tomando por base as obras de Norbert Elias e Benedict Anderson.

Italian immigrant music bands and the national discourse

During the latter half of the twentieth century, the city of Campinas received a large number of Italian immigrants. With a view to replacing slavery labor, an official project of immigration was introduced in the country. When they arrived in the country, the Italian community that went to Campinas would organize music bands that played an important part in presentations and in the education of musicians in the region. This paper aims at analyzing the path taken by these companies and the role they had in the construction of the national discourse that, by taking the works of Norbert Elias and Benedict Anderson as bases.
