Resumo

Resumo: Este artigo apresenta dois tipos de silêncio, um positivo e outro negativo, respectivamente, em John Cage e Toru Takemitsu, sob a luz da teoria pós-humana de Rosi Braidotti. Percebemos que enquanto Cage se aproxima de filosofias orientais para alcançar sua definição de silêncio como ausência de intenção e afastamento do ego, Takemitsu apresenta concepções mais próximas da cultura ocidental, onde o silêncio é um confronto com o eu e uma representação da efemeridade da vida humana. Assim, argumentamos, a partir de Braidotti, que o silêncio em Takemitsu está ligado ao humanismo antropocêntrico, sendo o silêncio um silêncio negativo, representando o grande fim. Por outro lado, defendemos que o silêncio Cageano é pós-humano e positivo pois introduz uma mudança de paradigma que iguala os sons produzidos pela espécie humana aos outros sons do mundo, em uma visão geocêntrica do homem como parte de um todo maior é igual a ele.

The concept of silence in John Cage and Toru Takemitsu under the post-human theory.

This paper argues on two types of silence, one positive and one negative, respectively, in John Cage and Toru Takemirsu, under the light of Rosi Braidotti's post- human theory. We notice that while Cage approaches Eastern philosophies to reach his definition of silence as absence of intention and detachment from the ego, Takemitsu presents conceptions closer to Western culture, where silence is a confrontation with the self and a representation of the ephemerality of human life. Thus, we argue, based on Braidotti, that silence in Takemitsu is linked to anthropocentric humanism, silence being a negative silence, representing the definitive end. On the other hand, we show that Cagean silence is a posthuman and positive silence as it introduces a paradigm shift that equates the sounds produced by the human species with the other sounds of the world, in a geocentric view of man as part of a whole greater than and equal to them.
