Resumo

O objetivo do trabalho é analisar a produção musical do grupo Quarteto Novo registrada no LP homônimo lançado em 1967, a partir da contraposição de duas tendências da arte discutidas por Luiz Tatit: a narratividade e o iconicismo. Analisaremos, em particular, o fonograma “Algodão”, de autoria de Luiz Gonzaga e Zé Dantas, regravado no referido álbum. Pretendemos compreender quais os significados dessa retomada por parte do Quarteto Novo e o sentido da nova interpretação de 1967, marcada pela narratividade, embora baseada em uma canção de arranjo linear, centrada em imagens do universo sertanejo, mais próxima de uma tendência iconicista. Acreditamos, também, que essa discussão possa contribuir para lançar luz a possíveis nexos entre a produção artística e o contexto cultural e político do período.

“Algodão”: of the forró of Luiz Gonzaga to the "epic" arrangement of the Quarteto Novo

This work studies the musical production of Quarteto Novo recorded in LP namesake released in 1967, from the opposition of two tendencies of art discussed by Luiz Tatit: narrativity and iconicity. We will discuss, in particular, the phonogram "Algodão", written by Luiz Gonzaga and Zé Dantas, rewritten in that album. We aim to understand the meanings of this resumption by the Quarteto Novo and the sense of the new interpretation of 1967, marked by the narrativity, although based on a song of linear arrangement, centered on images of the brazilian northeastern universe, closer to a iconic trend. We also believe that this discussion may help to shed light on possible connections between artistic production and cultural and political context of the period.
